Westchester County and International Business
Westchester County embraces government's proper role as a catalyst and challenger, encouraging local companies to raise their aspirations and move to higher levels of competitive performance through international expansion.
Forward-thinking initiatives, including trade missions, educational seminars, and global videoconferencing, have granted small to medium-sized companies a foothold in the expanding global marketplace. The County's approach has been to target a handful of strategic regions in the world that complement its economic profile. This uniquely focused approach to international cooperation has helped Westchester County build an impressive network of contacts throughout the world, most notably in China, Italy and Ireland.
In 2006 alone, the County signed cooperative agreements with the Pudong New Area of Shanghai (the high-tech hub of Shanghai), the Shandong Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, and the Shanghai Pudong Productivity Center (a high-tech center representing some of the most well-known technology companies in China). These agreements lay the groundwork for joint development and other innovative forms of cooperation between Westchester and China.
